A government-appointed expert panel has proposed the "Global Startup Campus Initiative," aimed at fostering joint research between domestic startups and foreign universities.
The initiative includes the creation of a new research facility spanning Tokyo’s Shibuya and Meguro wards, set to be completed after 2028.
Researchers from prestigious institutions such as the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) will be invited to collaborate. The proposal calls for the government to ease regulations and reform policies to attract these international researchers, with a focus on developing startups in the deep tech sector. The new facility will also manage intellectual property, supporting the growth of cutting-edge technology ventures.
